Francis Cosne

Francis Cosne (born May 17, 1916 in Lausanne , Switzerland , † December 13, 1984 in Paris , France ) was a Swiss-born film producer and film official in France.

Live and act

Cosne attended the Lycée Janson-de-Sailly and then the law school in Paris. As early as 1934 he began his cineastic career with the local film company, initially as a technician. In 1942 he married Jacqueline Demongeot, with whom he had four daughters. Since 1946 Cosne worked in cinema production, initially as a production manager, soon afterwards as a film producer.

In this function, Francis Cosne produced a wealth of artistically not too ambitious films, which, however, were sometimes great successes (such as especially fanfan, the hussar ) and were cast with audience favorites such as Brigitte Bardot , Gérard Philipe and Martine Carol . His collaboration with director Bernard Borderie turned out to be a stroke of luck for both men in 1964 when they put together the extremely box-office film series about the French courtesan Angélique over the next four years .

Cosne filled several positions in the domestic film industry: from 1958 he served as President and General Director of Francos-Films, from 1967 to 1969 as President of Uni-France-Films and from 1961 to 1963 as President of the Association of French Film Producers and of 1977 to 1978 of the Federation of French Film Producers. Cosne was also a member of other advisory boards and commissions of the domestic film industry and was listed as a co-author of scripts in various films. In 1970 he was seen with a small role in the crime thriller A bull sees red .
