Francis Delpérée

Francis Delpérée (born January 14, 1942 in Liège ) is a Belgian legal scholar and politician of the Center Démocrate Humaniste (cdH). After meeting in the Senate for a long time , he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2014. At the local level, Delpérée has been a councilor in the municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre / Sint-Pieters-Woluwe since 2006 .

Life

Francis Delpérée completed his law studies at the Catholic University of Leuven in 1964 and received his doctorate in 1968 from the Université de Paris . As a student he was a member of the Olivaint Conference of Belgium . From 1970 on he taught Belgian constitutional law at the Université catholique de Louvain until his retirement in 2007. From 1990 to 1993 he was dean of the law faculty there. Since 1994 he has been editor-in-chief of the legal journal Revue belge de droit constitutionnel .

Delpérée worked initially as a lawyer , then from 1985 to 2004 as an assessor in the Legislative Department of the Belgian Council of State . Francis Delpérée achieved relative fame during this period for his numerous publications in Belgian, French and international magazines and for his presence as an expert on constitutional issues in the Belgian media.

His best-known work is called “  Le droit constitutionnel de la Belgique  ” (Brussels, Bruylant, Paris, LGDJ, 2000, 1048 pages, ISBN 978-2-8027-1378-4 ).

Political career

In 2004 he entered politics for the center humanists cdH and became a Brussels regional member, member of the French Community and finally Community Senator . In the federal elections in 2007 Delpérée received 109,399 preferential votes and has since been directly elected senator and parliamentary group leader. He also represented his party in the subsequent state reform negotiations. In the federal elections on May 25, 2014, Francis Delpérée was elected to the Chamber of Deputies.

Honors

Francis Delpérée is a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium and the Institut de France ( Académie des sciences morales et politiques ) and an external member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences . He is also a Doctor honoris causa at the Universities of Aix-Marseille III , Geneva , Ottawa , Athens and Szeged .

In 1993 King Baudouin I awarded him the title of " Baron ".
