The nest at Saint-Lary-Soulan

The Neste is a river in France that runs in the Occitania region . It rises as Neste de Badet in the Pyrenees National Park , in the municipality of Aragnouet . The source lies above the Lac de Badet , at an altitude of 2299 meters. It changes its name several times in the course of its course: in Aragnouet it is called Neste d'Aragnouet , a few kilometers further on it is Neste d'Aure . Only below Sarrancolin does it take its final name Neste . The valley landscape of the upper reaches is called Vallée d'Aure .

The Neste generally drains in a north-easterly direction and flows into the Garonne as a left tributary after 73 kilometers at Montréjeau . On its way, the Neste crosses the Hautes-Pyrénées and Haute-Garonne departments .

Hydrology

At Sarrancolin, water is branched off from the river and further distributed through the Canal de la Neste over the Lannemezan plateau for irrigation and doping of other rivers that have little water in summer.
