Francis Kirwa ( Francis Chepsiror Kirwa ; born November 28, 1974 in Tebeson , Rift Valley ) is a Finnish long-distance runner of Kenyan origin who specializes in the marathon .

In 2001 he won the Lidingöloppet over 30 km and in 2002 the Alsterlauf over 10 km. In 2005 he switched to the 42.195 km distance and finished tenth in the Hamburg Marathon in 2:16:08 h. Shortly thereafter, he received Finnish citizenship and became national champion in the 5,000-meter run . Starting for his new home, he finished 39th in the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki that same year . The following year he came in 28th at the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg .

In 2008 he won with his personal best of 2:11:01 h at the Maratona di Sant'Antonio and thus qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where he came 17th.

Francis Kirwa is 182 cm tall and weighs 60 kg. He comes from the Kenyan people of the Kalendjin . He has lived in Lahti since 2002 . He starts for the Lahden Ahkera club and is coached by Timo Vuorimaa.
