Franjo Gregurić

Franjo Gregurić (born October 12, 1939 in Lobor , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian politician ( Hrvatska demokratska zajednica ) and was the third Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia from 1991 to 1992 .

Life

Franjo Gregurić studied chemical engineering at the University of Zagreb . He later worked in the management of the pesticide manufacturer Chromos in Zagreb. He has the patents on two pesticides he invented.

He was a member of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia , from which he was expelled several times. In 1981 he became President of the Zagreb Chamber of Commerce .

Before 1990 Gregurić held leading positions at the state export company Astra. On July 17, 1991, he was appointed Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Croatia by the then President Franjo Tuđman . When he took office, the state was in a difficult position. Although the republic had declared itself independent on June 25, 1991, it was not yet recognized internationally as a separate state . In parts of Croatia with a larger Serb minority , riots began between Croats and Serbs, which culminated in the Croatian War. This government was later also known as Vlada nacionalnog jedinstva (The government of national unity). During Gregurić's term of office, on January 15, 1992, Croatia was recognized internationally as a sovereign state. In February 1992 the government began to fall apart. From 1992 to 2000 Gregurić was a member of the HDZ in the Croatian parliament .

From 1993 to 1995 he was General Director of the Croatian mineral oil company INA , then until 1999 Vice President of the INA Supervisory Board. For several years he was President of the Croatian Fire Brigade Association.

Zlatko Mateša , Prime Minister of Croatia from 1995 to 2000, was married to Gregurić's daughter, the marriage ended in divorce.
