Frank Daubner

Frank Daubner (* 1971 ) is a German ancient historian and university professor .

Life

Frank Daubner studied history, classical archeology and German philology at the Universities of Cologne , Thessaloniki and Göttingen from 1991 to 2002 , where he received his doctorate in ancient history under Gustav Adolf Lehmann in 2002 . The travel grant of the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy had Daubner held from 2003 to 2004. He then worked primarily as an archaeologist: from 2004 to 2007 he worked as a scientist and scientific project manager in the construction of the north-south light rail in Cologne. In the 2007/2008 winter semester he was assistant at the Institute for Classical Archeology at the Free University of Berlin .

From 2008 to 2015 Daubner was Peter Scholz's assistant and academic advisor at the Department of Ancient History at the University of Stuttgart . In the winter semester 2013/2014 and in the summer semester 2014 he was a fellow at the Cultural Studies College in Konstanz . With a research grant from the German Research Foundation , Daubner conducted research at the German Archaeological Institute in Athens in the 2014/2015 winter semester . After completing his habilitation in Ancient History at the University of Stuttgart in July 2015, he was a professor for political cultures of antiquity at the University of Konstanz from October 2015 to March 2017 . Since April 2017 he has been W2 Professor for Ancient History at the University of Trier .

Daubner specializes in the history of Hellenism and Roman expansion in the Eastern Mediterranean.
