Malcolm Moses Adams Brogdon (born December 11, 1992 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American basketball player who currently plays for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA . As a combo guard , he can play both the position of point guard and shooting guard . Brogdon received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award for the 2016-17 season .

Career

Brogdon played four years for the University of Virginia , where he had a successful athletic career. In his senior year, Brogdon won numerous awards including ACC Player of the Year and NABC Defensive Player of the Year . Brogdon was also part of the United States ' national basketball team in 2015 , with which he competed in the 2015 Pan American Games and won the bronze medal. In his honor, Virginia stopped giving Brogdon's jersey number # 15 to other players in February 2017.

After his college career, Brogdon was selected 36th in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks . He quickly earned playing time in the team of coach Jason Kidd and scored 10.2 points, 4.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game in his rookie season and reached the NBA playoff with the Bucks at the end of the season. At the end of the season he was appointed to the NBA All-Rookie First Team and named Rookie of the Year . He is the first rookie in the modern era of the NBA to win this award as a second-round draft pick.

For the next two years, Brogdon remained a key member of the Bucks and was instrumental in helping the Bucks qualify for the playoffs in 2018 and 2019. In the summer of 2019 Brogdon signed a contract with the Indiana Pacers as part of a so-called sign-and-trade .
