Frank Schmitt (born August 19, 1968 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the Hamburg Parliament since March 2011 .

Professional and private

After graduating from the comprehensive school in Stuttgart-Neugereut in 1988, Schmitt began studying social pedagogy at the Stuttgart University of Cooperative Education , which he completed in 1992. He then worked in mobile youth work and as a youth carer in Baden-Württemberg . From 1993 to 2004 he also worked as a part-time lecturer in training for youth and home educators. Since 2002 he has been working in various functions as a social pedagogue for an independent youth welfare organization in Hamburg .

Political career

Schmitt has been a member of the SPD since 2002. From 2004 to 2010 he was deputy chairman of the Lurup district and from 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the district executive committee of the SPD Altona, as well as an elected citizen of the district assembly in the Altona district . There he was active in the committees for economy, labor, security, consumer protection and in the youth welfare committee. From 2008 to 2011 he was a member of the Altona District Assembly.

In the state elections in Hamburg in 2011 , he ran for the SPD in the Blankenese constituency . With 29,358 votes (12.4 percent) he succeeded in entering parliament. He has been a member of the Hamburg Parliament since March 7, 2011 . There he was a member of the Family, Children and Youth Committee, Committee for Constitution and Districts and the Elbphilharmonie Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry . In addition, he was a member of the submission committee from April 2011 to January 2012 . In the 2015 Hamburg state elections , he was directly re-elected to the state with 32,477 votes in the Blankenese constituency. He is chairman of the committee for children, family and youth, member of the constitutional and district committee as well as the transport committee and spokesman for districts of the SPD parliamentary group.

On February 23, 2020, Schmitt was able to move into the Hamburg Parliament again .
