Frank Schult (born February 13, 1948 in Ilmenau , Thuringia) is a German painter , sculptor and graphic artist . He studied painting with Bernhard Heisig and was a master student with Willi Sitte . In 1988 Frank Schult was expatriated from the GDR. Frank Schult is an artist from the Leipzig School .

Life

Frank Schult grew up in Ilmenau. He has been married since 1976 and has two daughters and a son.

Through contact with the color designer Roland Klemmer, the first intensive occupation with painting took place. From 1972 to 1977 Frank Schult studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig with Bernhard Heisig , Arno Rink and Hans Mayer-Foreyt .

In 1977 Frank Schult was accepted into the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR . First exhibitions and trips abroad to what was then the Eastern Bloc followed . In 1982 Frank Schult became a master student with Willi Sitte in Halle. He got involved through his friendship with Pastor Steffen Metzger in the parish of Halle / Beesen. Numerous exhibitions at home and abroad followed. a. in Grabrowo, Lausanne, Nuremberg, Hanover, Budapest, Leningrad, Białystok, Prague.

In 1985, Frank Schult applied to leave the GDR and terminated his master class relationship with Willi Sitte. He participated in prayers for peace in Halle and Leipzig ( Nikolaikirche ). In 1986 his identity card of the GDR was withdrawn and Frank Schult was banned from Berlin. From then on, Schult was under constant surveillance by the State Security . In 1987 - on Human Rights Day - an internal church magazine was founded with graphics by Frank Schult. In February 1988, Schult was co-initiator of the graphics auction "Peace, Creation, Human Rights" in the Leipzig Reformed Church . The proceeds were used to support those imprisoned for the Berlin Rosa Luxemburg demonstration. This was followed by the performance "Mourning and Fire - Film" with Ludwig Erle, Hans-Jürgen Wenzel, Frank Hiller and numerous amateur actors from Halle / Saale.

In February 1988 his exhibition “Mourning and Fire” in the “Phillip Müller” cultural center in Halle / Saale was banned. On December 10, 1988, permission was given to leave the country with the family to the Federal Republic of Germany. After working in Schlitz / Hessen and Fulda , Frank Schult lives and works in Celle and Hamburg.
