Frank Teubel (born September 5, 1958 ) is a former German football player who was represented between 1978 and 1983 with 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and Chemie Böhlen in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . He is a multiple junior national player .

Athletic career

At the age of eight, Frank Teubel was accepted into the youth department of 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in 1966. As a junior player for 1. FC Lok, he played in the junior league from 1973 to 1976 and won the GDR championship there in 1974 and 1976. From 1976 to 1977 he played 19 international matches with the GDR junior national team , for which he scored two goals. For the 1978/79 season the only 1.59 m tall Teubel was included as a striker in the squad of the junior league team , played with the first team also seven league games in which he was used in attack. However, he only played one game over the full length. For the 1979/80 season he moved up to the league squad, but was only used as a substitute for 19 minutes on the last game day.

Teubel had more success in 1980/81 as a player in the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Leipzig . This played in the second-rate GDR league , in which Teubel was called up in 20 of the 22 point games. He scored seven goals and was together with Lutz Eichhorn top scorer of the BSG. In May 1981 he was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months and played during this time with the 2nd team of the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Dessau in the third-class district league Halle .

After his discharge from military service, Teubel joined the league climber Chemie Böhlen in November 1982. There, too, he could not gain a foothold in the top league and with four short-term appearances only remained a substitute. After only one season, Böhlen rose again to the GDR league. Although Teubel was in the squad of the league team, he was not used in a league game in 1983/84. From 1984 to 1988 he played for the BSG activist Borna in the Leipzig district league . In 1988 the activists became district champions and rose to the GDR league. With 26 appearances in 34 league games (the GDR league had been reduced from five to two seasons) Teubel belonged to the player base and scored three goals. It wasn't enough to keep them up, and another year in the district league followed. After one season, Teubel succeeded in returning to the second class. After the political change in 1990 , the BSG activist was converted into the Bergbau-Sportverein Borna, the former GDR league was held in 1990/91 under the name NOFV-Liga as the Northeast Football League . There were 30 league games, of which Teubel completed 24 matches, in which he again scored three goals. Subsequently, the NOFV League was incorporated into the DFB's game operations and became the third-class division as the Northeast Football League. For the 33-year-old Teubel, the football career in the higher leagues ended. Between 1978 and 1991 he had thus come to twelve league games with one goal and 70 second division games with 13 goals.
