Frank Varga (originally Ferenc Csaba Varga , born June 18, 1943 in Budapest , † April 14, 2018 in Delray Beach , Florida ) was a Hungarian-American sculptor.

Life

Frank Varga was the son of the artist Ferenc Varga and his wife Anna Pázman Varga. At the age of eight he immigrated to Canada with his parents . A few years later the family moved to Detroit . The father had already set up a sculpture workshop in Canada and then in the USA, in which the son began to work early. From 1964 Varga attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence . From 1970 he had his studio in Grosse Pointe , Michigan . From this time on he also taught budding sculptors. In 1983 he moved the studio to Delray Beach.

Every year Varga took his students on trips to Carrara , where they were supposed to learn to sculpt in marble . Varga died after a serious illness. He left behind his wife and two sons.

Varga's works can be found in private collections, but also in public spaces. On February 10, 2018, he was honored with a retrospective at the Cornell Museum of Art in Delray Beach , Florida.
