Franz Büchner (lawyer)

Franz Büchner (born January 29, 1902 in Meerane , † October 29, 1988 in Hamburg ) was a German lawyer and insurance historian .

Büchner, who was born near Zwickau , attended schools in Leipzig and then studied law at the university there . After receiving his doctorate in 1925, he worked as a legal clerk for two private insurance companies. From 1931 to 1945 he served as Councilor worked for the Reich Supervisory Office for Insurance, where he remained as a permanent member. From 1946 to 1951 he worked as a senior government councilor and permanent member of the zone office of the Reich supervisory office for insurance. In 1951 Büchner took over the position of President of the Hamburger Feuerkasse and Hamburger MobiliarFeuerkasse , which he held until 1968. During this time he worked on many committees in the insurance industry and especially in public insurers.

In 1951 he campaigned for the establishment of the Deutsche Rückversicherungs-Aktiengesellschaft . In 1955 he was a member of the board for a short period of time. At that time he also headed the public insurance working group as managing director .

Works

Franz Büchner wrote on the history of the insurance industry, researching fundamental sources. He prepared an overview of the history of insurance as a whole, the insurance companies in Hamburg in particular, insurance supervision and the history of fire insurance. In 1957 he wrote a standard work in his field with the outline of individual insurance. The book was published in the 9th edition until 1986.
