Franz Baugut SJ (Czech: Frantíšek Baugut ; also: Baugatta ; * 1668 in Wartenberg in Bohemia ; † February 16, 1726 in Iglau ) was a Bohemian sculptor , carver , builder and carpenter .

Life

Franz Baugut belonged to the Jesuit order and directed its Kuttenberg carpenter and wood carver workshop. In the years 1723 to 1725 he was involved in the construction of the Jihlava school building of the Jesuit order. His carvings are characterized by a rich ornamental design. The atlantic statues on the great fountain in Ceske Budejovice were mistakenly attributed to him. They were created by Jan and Josef Dietrich in 1720–1727, with Franz Baugut being responsible for building supervision.
