Franz Breit

Franz Breit (born July 1, 1817 in Mieders near Innsbruck ; † August 17, 1868 in Tübingen ) was a German gynecologist and professor at the University of Tübingen .

Life

Franz Breit went to high school in Hall in Tirol and studied philosophy in Innsbruck from 1835 to 1836 as well as medicine in Vienna , Prague and Padua . He earned his doctorate in medicine, surgery and obstetrics in Vienna in 1842 and 1843. In 1844 he became an assistant in the obstetric clinic at the University of Vienna and remained in this position until 1847 when he was appointed assistant doctor at the obstetric clinic in Tübingen and an associate professor at the University of Tübingen. In 1849 he became a full professor and head of the obstetric clinic. He was a valued practitioner and was therefore called in not only in Tübingen, but also in the surrounding area in difficult cases and enjoyed the greatest trust. In 1863 he received the personal nobility through the Knight's Cross of the Württemberg Crown. His portrait hangs in the professors' gallery in Tübingen .

Publications

He only published small papers: In the archive for physiological medicine by Wilhelm Roser and Karl Reinhold August Wunderlich , born in 1848, there are three obstetric papers:

  • A new modification of the cephalotribos (correction: cephalotribes ) together with remarks on cephalotripsy and perforation
  • About the turn of the child upside down
  • Two cymbal knives .

In addition, three dissertations submitted under his presidium were written:

  • On the diseases of the symphysis ossium pubis , 1854
  • On the influence of ovarian tumors on conception, pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium , 1861
  • Observations on operations with the pliers saw according to Van Huwel (correction: Huevel) , 1859
