Franz Dufter (born April 15, 1962 ) is a former German automobile racing driver . He kicked u. a. From 1990 to 1992 in the DTM .
Life
Franz Dufter comes from Marktschellenberg in Berchtesgadener Land . In the 1970s and 80s he completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic in the family business - a BMW workshop in Marktschellenberg - and passed the master's examination.
He is married and now lives in the community of Schönau am Königssee . The couple has a daughter.
Career
Franz Dufter began motorsport at the age of 19, initially in the Renault 5 Cup, which he won in 1984 and was runner-up in 1983 and 1985. In 1986, Dufter was in discussion for a works contract with BMW , which, however, did not materialize for unknown reasons. In 1987 he contested a race in the touring car world championship for Linder Rennsport in a BMW M3 . He also competed for Linder Rennsport with Altfrid Heger and Christian Danner in the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race, with the team finishing fifth. Later races in the endurance cup , the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and in the DTM followed . In 1990 his team retired while in the lead at the Nürburgring 24-hour race. In the 1990s Dufter drove - in addition to a few appearances in the DTM - mainly in races of the German Touring Car Trophy (DTT), in which he narrowly missed winning the title in 1995.
Dufter is considered to be an extremely fast driver , especially on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring . At the 1992 24-hour race, he was the only driver in the field who could keep up with Walter Röhrl's lap times - who was over half a minute faster than most of the other drivers - in adverse weather conditions with rain and fog at night .
In 1997 he turned his back on motorsport for family and professional reasons, but also because of a lack of motivation. During his active time, Franz Dufter won a total of around 70 races in a wide variety of classes. In the endurance cup he celebrated 26 class and 6 overall victories.
2018 moved Dufter the "Roßfeldrennen", a vintage car race on the former mountain race track on the Roßfeldhöhenringstraße , again a BMW M3, as he drove him nearly 30 years earlier in the DTM.
