Franz Fäh-Kinkelin (born January 21, 1857 in Walenstadt ; † May 11, 1907 ) was a Swiss teacher and historian .

life and work

Franz Fäh, who came from a simple farming background, attended high school in St. Gallen , where he was, among other things, the pupil of Johannes Dierauer . He then studied history at the University of Zurich , where Georg von Wyss , Johann Rudolf Rahn and Gerold Meyer von Knonau were among his teachers. In 1883 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on the Kluser trade from 1632/33. In the same year he was employed as a teacher for German and history at the Realschule in Basel . In 1896 or 1897 he became the school inspector of the boys' primary schools in Basel, after having previously been the inspectorate of the schools in Riehen and Bettingen . In addition to these activities, he wrote several historical studies that mainly dealt with topics from the history of Switzerland in the 17th century and the Sarganserland . He also wrote articles on the recent history of schooling and upbringing. He was the son-in-law of Hermann Kinkelin .

On the occasion of the "Basler Bundesfeier 1901", the 400th anniversary of Basel joining the Swiss Confederation, he was a member of the organizing committee and chaired the directing committee.
