Franz Güssmann

Franz Güssmann (born September 30, 1741 in Wolkersdorf in the Weinviertel , † January 28, 1806 in Seitenstetten ) was an Austrian Jesuit , physicist and astronomer .

Life

Güssmann entered the order in 1756. He studied at the University of Vienna , where he completed his studies with the title Dr. phil. completed. Güssmann was involved in the surveying of Galicia and Lodomeria since 1773 . After his order was canceled, he taught physics as a secular clergyman in Lemberg . From 1787 he also taught experimental physics at the University of Vienna . From 1791 to 1802 he was a physics teacher at the Theresian Academy in Vienna. He was also an adjunct of the Vienna observatory . In his geological and paleontological works he adhered to the biblical time frame of 5800 years for the age of the world. In 1805 Güssmann retired to the Seitenstetten Abbey , where he died a year later.
