Franz Seraph Heigl (born July 11, 1920 in Munich ; † August 18, 2001 in Göttingen ) was a German psychoanalyst and developed the Göttingen model of group psychotherapy together with his wife Annelise Heigl-Evers .

life and work

In 1954, Heigl co-founded the "Göttingen Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy". From 1971 to 1985 he was head of the Lower Saxony State Hospital in Tiefenbrunn . In 1975 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Göttingen . Among other things, he was a founding member of the “International Working Group on Psychoanalytic Societies”.

Together with his wife Annelise Heigl-Evers, he developed the psychoanalytical-interactional method for structurally disturbed patients, primarily with borderline syndrome . In this context, Tiefenbrunn developed into the first German specialist clinic for patients with psychotrauma disorders .

Heigl is the author of numerous books and textbooks on psychotherapy . Together with his wife, he donated the € 10,000 Heigl Prize for empirical or conceptual work in the field of psychotherapy research .
