Franz Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenburg (born April 9, 1604 , † November 26, 1658 ) was a prince of Sachsen-Lauenburg .

Life

Franz Heinrich was the ninth and youngest son of Duke Franz II of Saxony-Lauenburg (1547–1619) from his second marriage to Maria (1566–1626), daughter of Duke Julius of Braunschweig and Lüneburg, Prince of Wolfenbüttel . The prince's godfather was the French King Henry IV. In the inheritance contract with his brothers in 1619, he recognized the rule of his older brother August and received 2,500 Reichstaler annually.

After the landing of the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf in Peenemünde in 1630, he entered his service and gained his affection. Franz Heinrich received the Marienfließ monastery as a gift from him. As a colonel and regimental commander, he fought under General Baner in the victorious battle of Wittstock .

After the death of his mother, he received Franzhagen in a settlement made with his brothers in 1635 and after the death of his brother August Wangelau and the Vorwerk Rothenbeck (now part of Grande ) were added. In Swedish service and afterwards Franz Heinrich stayed a lot with Sophie von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg (1579–1658), widow of Duke Philip II of Pomerania . Sophie's and Franz Heinrich's fathers were cousins. Franz Heinrich and Marie Juliane von Nassau-Siegen (1612–1665) married on December 13, 1637, in Treptow an der Rega , at the site of Sophies Wittum , a former nunnery that she had expanded into a castle born in Treptow.

Franz Heinrich also took care of the administration of the accessories (pertinances) of her Wittum for Sophie. Franz Heinrich and his brother Franz Karl objected to the succession of his brother Julius Heinrich as Duke of Sachsen-Lauenburg . The brothers' disputes were only settled in 1656, the year Julius Heinrich succeeded his older half-brother August, who died in the same year .

Under the company name Der Scharfe he was accepted as a member of the literary fruitful society .

Franz Heinrich resided in Franzhagen Castle and was given the name "Franz Drögbrod" by his subjects because of his stinginess .
