Franz Held (sports scientist)

Franz Held (born May 6, 1948 in Passau ) is a German former rower and current sports scientist.

Professional career

He studied the early 1970s, sports and economics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich for the teaching profession . After his legal clerkship from 1975 to 1977, Held worked as a teacher for special tasks at the Technical University of Munich from 1977 . In 1993 he received his doctorate in sports science from the German Sport University Cologne ; The subject of his dissertation was investigations on the isokinetic rowing ergometer to determine the performance diagonally significant measurement parameters .

Since 1994 he has worked as academic director at the Technical University of Munich, among other things as head of sports teacher training, as the president's representative for study matters in sports and from 1999 to 2005 as dean of studies.

Franz Held was active in many committees during his time in Munich. For example, as a member of the founding commission of the Faculty of Sport Science as dean of studies or as a member of the commission for training in the German Ski Instructor Association .

The former active performance rower has been working at the University of Passau since the winter semester 2006/2007 ; on October 23, 2006, the university management appointed him head of the sports center.

Athletic career

Held rowed for the Passau RV, with the Passau eight he took second place at the German championships in 1967 and 1969, and in 1968 the boat reached third place. In 1968 he was also second with Günther Karl in two without a helmsman . This two also started at the Olympic Games in 1968 and finished twelfth there. In 1969, Franz Held won bronze at the European Championships as a member of the German eight. After finishing fourth with eighth at the 1970 World Rowing Championships, Held switched to the four without a helmsman . At the European Championships in 1971 he won the bronze medal together with Wolfgang Plottke , Peter Funnekötter and Joachim Ehrig . These four rowers also won the bronze medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
