Franz Hubert Müller (born July 27, 1784 in Bonn , † April 5, 1835 in Darmstadt ) was a German painter, engraver, art writer and gallery director in Darmstadt.

After dropping out of law school, Franz Hubert Müller began painting as an autodidact in 1801. Until 1814 he worked as court painter to Prince Georg Heinrich von Waldeck at the court of King Jérôme Bonaparte von Westphalen in Kassel , where he copied works from the Kassel gallery .

He visited Saint Petersburg and Moscow to portray Russian soldiers. Then he settled in Frankfurt am Main .

In 1816 he was appointed to Darmstadt by Grand Duke Ludwig I and from 1817 employed as gallery inspector of the grand ducal collections . In 1820 he published the gallery's catalog. In 1823 he was appointed gallery director. In 1824 he received his doctorate from the University of Giessen . In 1818 he founded the Grand Ducal Drawing School and had been a drawing teacher since 1819.

In 1818 he researched the Katharinenkirche in Oppenheim . From 1823 a documentation of the church appeared in eight volumes. The works served as templates for the restoration of the church in 1843. In 1837 his “ Contributions to German art and history through art monuments with excellent consideration of the Middle Ages ” appeared.

Franz Hubert Müller had seven children and three of his sons became painters and engravers.
