The Franz Joseph Cross was an Austrian award that by the November 28, 1916 I. Emperor Karl was donated.

history

The foundation of the Franz Joseph Cross had already been approved by Emperor Franz Joseph I , but was only formally created by Emperor Karl I after his death on November 28, 1916 . The late monarch had personally determined the list of porters. It was intended to be awarded to the members of Franz Joseph I's personal staff during the war years 1914 to 1916 in recognition of their outstanding loyalty to the service.

The medal is a silver -rimmed Maltese cross made of black iron . A golden laurel wreath runs between the arms of the cross . In the medallion , which is surrounded by a silver ring with the inscription MILITANTIBVS A LATERE MEO and MCMXIV - MCMXVI , the intertwined initials FJI (Franz Joseph Imperator). The back of the cross is smooth.

The award was worn as a cross on the right side of the chest.

The Franz-Joseph-Kreuz should not be confused with the Franz-Joseph-Orden donated in 1849 or the memorial to Emperor and King Franz Joseph I created on July 22, 1918 . The commemorative badge was to be awarded in gold (1st class) and silver (2nd class), but was no longer issued on a large scale before the end of the monarchy.
