Franz Kadell

Franz-Anton Kadell (* 1951 in Bad Bentheim ) is a German journalist .

Life

Franz Kadell studied history, German and philosophy in Heidelberg and Münster . He was involved in the fraternities Franconia in Münster and Cimbria in Munich. In 1979 he ran for the Ring of Freedom Students in the student parliament elections for the winter semester 1979/1980 in Münster .

1980 Kadell was in Münster on the Huguenots in Hesse-Kassel Dr. phil. PhD. This was followed by a traineeship and editorial work at Münchner Merkur . He also wrote articles for the Burschenschaftliche Blätter and was editor of the magazine Student , a student magazine for many years , which Dietrich Heither classified as right-wing extremist.

In 1983 Kadell moved to the USA. From 1984 to 1985 he was a lecturer at Georgetown University in Washington, DC In Washington he met his future first wife, the African-American soprano Joyce Kadell, who followed him to Germany, first to Bonn and then to Saxony-Anhalt.

After his return from the USA in 1986, Kadell worked in Bonn until 1991 as a foreign policy editor for Die Welt . In 1991 he moved to the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung (Halle) as head of the news department , and in 1994 as head of politics at the Leipziger Volkszeitung . In the same year he became deputy editor-in-chief at Volksstimme in Magdeburg. In 1999 he went to the Märkische Oderzeitung (Frankfurt / Oder) as editor-in-chief and in 2001 returned to the Volksstimme in Magdeburg in this position. From May 2011 to April 2013 he was government spokesman for the state of Saxony-Anhalt . Then he accepted a teaching position at the University of Magdeburg .

Kadell plays the saxophone and clarinet and has been the band leader of the Saxlust formation since 2014 . He lives with his second wife Dana in Magdeburg and near Halle / Saale .
