Franz Knauff
Franz Moritz Knauff (born September 24, 1835 in Karlsruhe , † April 12, 1920 in Heidelberg ) was a German hygienist .
Life
Knauff studied medicine at the universities of Heidelberg and Würzburg from 1853 and passed the state examination in Heidelberg in 1858 . In 1859 he received his doctorate, in 1861 he completed his habilitation at the Medical University Clinic . In 1867 Knauff was appointed associate professor and in June 1868 also as district doctor in Heidelberg. The Institute for Forensic Medicine was founded under Knauff's leadership in 1869. In November 1874 he took over the teaching position for public health care and forensic medicine. In 1891 the Hygiene Institute was opened in a new building on Thibautstrasse. On December 30, 1891, Knauff was appointed full professor . On October 1, 1909, he retired.
Franz Knauff was buried in the mountain cemetery. In the Heidelberg West City is Franz-Knauff-road named after him.
