Franz Lachinger

Father Franz Lachinger OSCam (born January 29, 1937 in Gampern , † 2001 in Medjugorje ) was a priest of the Camillian Order . Among other things, he became known because he was the first priest in Vienna to regularly affirm “musical and social projects” in church services and to warmly welcome disabled musicians. In doing so, he pursued goals similar to those of the founder of the musical-social method, Renate Spitzner .

As pastor and church rector of the large, handicapped accessible, heated and restored home church in the geriatric center in the Vienna Woods , the "Karl Borromäus Church", he tried to help people who no longer enjoyed religion or the practice of their faith. They felt addressed and accepted by him. During his term of office, a special congregation was established in which people with severe disabilities also made a long journey across Vienna to come to his church services.

Numerous projects have been implemented together with the “Music and Social Project” project initiative.

In 2001, at the request of a senior group, Father Franz Lachinger went to the pilgrimage site of Međugorje , where he had been missing since May 21st. His body wasn't found for a year and a half. The projects he supported in the home were not continued.

For the implementation of the “musical-social projects”, Father Franz Lachinger received a church award with a title. On January 28, 1998, he received the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria (1952) in the Vienna City Hall , presented by Vice Mayor Grete Laska.

During his lifetime he was given a mass ( Franz von Sales Mass ) on his name day by the composer Gerald Spitzner .
