Franz Limmer

Franz Limmer (born October 2, 1808 in Vienna , Austrian Empire , † January 19, 1857 in Timisoara , Austrian Empire) was an Austrian composer .

Life

The son of a silk manufacturer had violin and guitar lessons as a child and studied cello with Joseph Hartinger and clarinet with Joseph Friedlowsky at the Conservatory . After graduating, he began training in harmony, figured bass, composition and instrumentation with Erasmus Kessler and Ignaz von Seyfried . His first successful composition was a mass that was performed in Vienna's Augustinian Church in 1826 . During his time in Vienna he also a. a string quartet, a cello quartet, a cello trio and a symphony.

In 1834 Limmer was appointed Kapellmeister of the German theater in Timisoara , and in the following year Bishop Josef Lonovics von Krivina appointed him to the Regenschori at Timisoara Cathedral as the successor to Joseph Kratochwill . As a result he composed a. a. a sonata for piano and violin in G minor, the Jubel overture, a piano quintet that was published by Breitkopf & Härtel , and an offertory dedicated to Joseph von Róka that was published by Diabelli in Vienna and in Lugosch, Orawitza, Arad, Budapest and Vienna was performed. His Requiem in B flat and the Vespers hymns have only recently been found . In 1845 his opera Die Alpenhütte based on a libretto by the theater director Alexander Schmidt was premiered at the German theater in Timisoara . Limmer's last composition is his 27 responsories for Holy Week .
