Franz Lippisch

Franz Lippisch (born January 23, 1859 in Hammerschneidemühle, Oststernberg district , † February 22, 1941 in Jamlitz in Niederlausitz ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Lippisch studied at the Berlin Art Academy with Carl Constantin Heinrich Steffeck and Paul Thumann . He was influenced by Hans von Marees . After completing his studies, he led the preparatory class at the Berlin Art Academy. He was one of the founders of the Berlin Secession .

He worked as a book artist for Diederichs Verlag and illustrated a. a. Works by Lev Tolstoy .

Lippisch was married to Clara Commichau (1856–1942), a daughter of the textile industrialist Rudolf Commichau from Białystok and the Blanca von Hane. The couple's children were the painter Bianca Commichau-Lippisch (1890–1968) and the aircraft designer Alexander Lippisch (1894–1976). In 1915 Lippisch bought a farmhouse in Jamlitz in order to move there from Berlin. He lived here until his death.
