Franz Mörtinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Karl Mörtinger (born December 31, 1872 in Vienna ; † February 8, 1929 there ) was an Austrian builder and architect .

Life

Franz Mörtinger was the son of a carpenter . In 1892 he graduated from the state trade school in the field of construction with the Matura . In 1896 his father took him on as a partner in his company, which was now called Franz Mörtinger & Son . It can be assumed that Mörtinger had previously learned the carpenter's trade from his father. Since he also passed the master builder examination in 1898 and received the master builder license in 1900, the company was now able to carry out not only carpentry work, but also master builder work. For this reason, it enjoyed a great boom and subsequently made a name for itself by doing a wide variety of commissioned work, from civil engineering to the construction of theaters, hospitals and residential buildings. In 1914 Mörtinger was awarded the court title for the building trade.

Franz Mörtinger married Hermine Korce from Pressburg in 1899 , with whom he had a son Franz, who was also a master builder. After his death, Franz Mörtinger was buried in the Hietzinger cemetery .

As a builder, Franz Mörtinger not only carried out commissioned work, but also built buildings according to his own plans. He was committed to historicism and always endeavored to give his buildings a dignified and representative appearance. The formal language of its façades was initially neo-baroque, but in later years it was also enriched by secessionist elements. Buildings according to our own plans are only proven up to the beginning of the First World War.
