Franz Mayor de Montricher
Franz Mayor de Montricher (born April 19, 1810 in Lully , Canton of Vaud , † May 28, 1858 in Naples ) was a French engineer of Swiss origin.
In 1826 he entered the École polytechnique and graduated from the École des ponts et chaussées in 1832 as an engineer. From 1836 he worked on the project of the Canal de Marseille , in which water from the Durance river should be used for the drinking water supply of the city of Marseille . As a result, he realized this project and whose spektakulärster aspect of today under monument protection standing Aqueduct Roquefavour was.
Mayor also studied and designed railway projects in Italy and France. In 1843 he was appointed chief engineer. In 1854 he received the order from the Roman banker Alessandro Torlonia to drain the Fucin Lake in Abruzzo . In the course of this long-term project, De Montricher died of typhoid fever in 1858 .
