Carl Leonhard Müller von der Lühne (born August 6, 1643 , † July 12, 1707 in Wintersdorf , Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg ) was a Swedish general, commander of Stettin and deputy governor general of Swedish Pomerania .

Life

Carl Leonhard Müller von der Lühne was one of four sons of Colonel and later General Burchard Müller von der Lühne (1604–1670) and Ilsabe Maria von Schmeling (1619–1666). As a cornet in his father's free company, he took part in the defense of Greifswald against Brandenburg troops under Elector Friedrich Wilhelm in 1659 . In 1661 he became court junior to King Charles XI. and Ensign of the Swedish Guard. In 1664 he was promoted to lieutenant. As Rittmeister he served in the Jämtland regiment in 1668 and in the Scandinavian cavalry in 1671 . Then he went to French and Dutch military service.

In 1674 he returned to the Swedish service and was promoted to lieutenant colonel. As envoy in Hanover , he was supposed to persuade Johann Friedrich von Calenberg to cooperate with Sweden in the military in 1675 , but this did not succeed. During the Swedish-Brandenburg War in 1676, he became the commandant of Greifswald and took part in battles at the mouth of the Swine and the defense of Anklam . After the surrender, he was allowed to leave for Kalmar with the Swedish soldiers . With a letter from King Charles XI. he was sent back to Commander Otto Wilhelm von Königsmarck in Pomerania . In November of the same year he resigned from military service.

1681 he entered again into the Swedish military, first as a Lieutenant Colonel of a self-recruited dragoons - squadron . Soon afterwards he became a colonel in his own enlisted infantry regiment and high commander in Stade . In 1683 he was commandant in Wismar . During the War of the Palatinate Succession he was sent to the Rhine in 1690 with a 3,000-strong Swedish auxiliary force , which he commanded himself in 1691 and 1692.

In 1693 he was raised to the Swedish baron and introduced to the Swedish nobility. In the same year he became the commander of Szczecin . In 1698 he was appointed major general of the infantry and in 1705 promoted to lieutenant general. In 1699 he temporarily served as Governor General of Swedish Pomerania for Jürgen Mellin .

Carl Leonhard Müller von der Lühne died in 1707 during the Great Northern War in the Swedish army in Wintersdorf in Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg . He was buried in a magnificent baroque sarcophagus in the hereditary funeral of the Müller von der Lühne family in St. Nikolai Cathedral in Greifswald.

Property and family

Carl Leonhard Müller von der Lühne owned the Mellenthin estate with Goths on Usedom . He was the heir of Ludwigsburg and Neetzow in Western Pomerania . In 1693 he came into pledge ownership of the Westenbrügge estate in Mecklenburg for 24,000 thalers , where he also owned Alt Karin and Danneborth.

With Margareta von Bülow, a daughter of Lieutenant Governor Barthold Hartwig von Bülow and Abela Sophia von Plessen , he had three sons and three daughters.
