Franz Mohaupt

Franz Mohaupt (born August 29, 1854 in Jäckelsthal , † October 21, 1916 in Böhmisch Leipa ) was a Bohemian composer, educator and author. For his educational writings he used the pseudonym Ernst Schelmerding .

Live and act

Mohaupt grew up as the son of a teacher in Jäckelsthal and received musical training from his father. He attended the teacher training college in Leitmeritz , where his musical talent was promoted by Josef Dionys Manzer . He then took composition lessons with Julius Rietz in Dresden and finally completed his musical training in Prague with František Zdeněk Skuherský and Antonín Dvořák .

From 1874 Mohaupt worked as a teacher at the community school in Friedland , two years later he switched to the community school in Karolinenthal . In 1891 he became director of the private boys' elementary school at the St. John the Baptist Orphanage in Prague. Under Mohaupt's direction it became a model school. He also worked as the second choir master of the German Men's Choir in Prague and conducted the Bohemian premiere of Edgar Tinel's oratorio Franciscus in the New German Theater . In 1896 he took over the position of director of the girls' elementary and community school in Bohemian Leipa.

The city of Bohemian Leipa honored Franz Mohaupt in 1924 with the Mohaupt fountain ( Mohauptova kašna ). The bronze plaque with a portrait of Mohaupt was created by the Leipzig sculptor Johanna Maierová-Michelová.

Compositions

Mohaupt composed a festival mass, a quintet, an orchestral suite, [three] operas as well as songs and choirs.
