Franz Nekula

Franz Nekula (born November 16, 1924 in Vienna ; † April 26, 2011 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Nekula was a city ​​councilor in Vienna from 1969 to 1983 .

Nekula was born the son of a tram conductor and learned the trade of a clerk. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1942 and entered the service of the City of Vienna after the Second World War . At the beginning he worked for the welfare office in Vienna- Meidling and was most recently secretary of the city council for general administrative matters.

politics

Through his involvement in the trade union, Nekula was elected to the local council in 1964 on a mandate from the constituency of Meidling and sworn in on October 25, 1964. In addition, he had been a member of the Meidling district council since 1959 and was elected party chairman of the SPÖ Meidling in 1965. He was a member of the state parliament and local council until October 8, 1978 and was again Meidling's representative in the state parliament and local council between April 24, 1983 and September 20, 1984.

In 1969, Mayor Bruno Marek brought Nekula into the Vienna city and state government. Nekula was sworn in as a councilor for urban ventures on June 6, 1969. Nekula held this office in the state governments of Marek II , Slavik and Gratz I and Gratz II . After the government reshuffle of the state government of Gratz II, Nekula changed on September 28, 1976 as a city councilor to the transport and energy department, while the government reshuffle during Gratz III , Nekula took over the personnel and legal affairs department on February 14, 1979. During Nekula's term of office, among other things, the conversion from city gas to natural gas, the start of construction of the Vienna underground and the modernization of the tram fleet. Most recently, Nekula organized the implementation of the Vienna salary reform. He resigned on May 27, 1983 from his office as a city councilor.

Nekula was buried at the Südwestfriedhof in an honorary grave (group 4, number 61) in Vienna.

2016 was the 21st district of Vienna Floridsdorf the Nekula alley named after him.
