Franz Patzer
Franz Patzer (born August 18, 1924 in Vienna ; † November 17, 1992 there ) was an Austrian librarian.
Life
Patzer studied history and geography for teaching at the University of Vienna (he received his doctorate in 1949 and passed his teaching examination). At first he worked as a secondary school teacher, but was taken over into the service of the City of Vienna in 1954. From 1956 to 1973 he was active as secretary and personal assistant to the incumbent city councilors for culture, Hans Mandl and Gertrude Fröhlich-Sandner .
From 1974 until his retirement in 1988 he was the library director in charge of the Vienna City and State Library .
Patzer was also active as Vice President of the Johann Strauss Society (1981–1987) and from 1982 in the Association of Austrian Librarians. Patzer engaged a number of well-known experts for the house, including his later successors Walter Obermaier and Mag. Herwig Würtz, as well as for the Otto Brusatti music collection .
