Franz Paul von Herbert (politician)

Franz Paul von Herbert , also: Franz Paul Freiherr von Herbert (born August 16, 1819 in Klagenfurt , † August 3, 1884 in Feldbach , Styria ) was a member of the Austrian House of Representatives .

Life

Franz Paul von Herbert was the son of the lead manufacturer Albin Freiherr von Herbert († 1834). He went to a grammar school in Klagenfurt until 1835 . From 1836 to 1840 he attended lectures in physics , mathematics and chemistry at the universities of Vienna and Berlin (in the latter only in 1840). He also made study trips to white lead factories in Western Europe. He later owned the white lead factories in Klagenfurt and Wolfsberg . In 1854 he founded another factory in Lavis in the Trento district in South Tyrol . In 1880 he passed on the management of the operations (which have been part of the Bleiberger Bergwerk-Union since 1900 ) to his adopted son.

From 1843 he was also the owner of the Kirchbühel estate in the Wolfsberg community.

In 1847 he was chairman of the founding committee of the Natural History Museum in Klagenfurt and its director until 1872. He was also President of the Carinthian Museum Association from 1872 to 1882. From 1849 to 1859 he was also director of the industry and trade association for Carinthia.

Franz Paul von Herbert was Roman Catholic and had been married to Anna von Wangenheim since 1851, but with whom he had no children. He divorced her in 1862 . His adopted son was named Ernst Herbert-Kerchnawe.

Franz Paul von Herbert was a member of the Reichsfriendly Club. From June 25, 1867 until its dissolution in September 1867, he was also in the Herbst-Kaiserfeld'schen Klub.
