Franz Petermann

Franz Petermann (born September 28, 1953 in Weinheim / Bergstrasse , Mannheim district ; † August 1, 2019 ) was a German psychologist . He was a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Bremen and worked in the fields of clinical psychology and psychological diagnostics as well as developmental psychology and rehabilitation psychology .

Life

Franz Petermann studied mathematics and psychology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1972 to 1975 . In 1977 he was at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1975 to 1980 he worked as a research assistant at the Psychological Institute of the University of Heidelberg (until 1976) and the University of Bonn (1976 to 1980).

1980/1981 he taught as a professor at the TU Berlin , from 1982 to 1985 at the RWTH Aachen and 1985 to 1991 again at the University of Bonn. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he founded the subject of clinical child psychology in the German-speaking world . In 1991 he took over the newly created chair for clinical psychology and diagnostics at the University of Bremen. Together with representatives of the Hannover Medical School, he founded the Rehabilitation Science Research Association of Lower Saxony-Bremen and has headed it since 1998.

Together with his wife, the child psychologist Ulrike Petermann , he set up an outpatient clinic for children and adolescents in 2008 in order to research and work primarily in the field of anxiety disorders and depressive disorders.

Petermann was a board member of the German Society for Psychology (2008–2010) and President of the Congress 2010. Since December 1, 2016, Petermann has been leading the BMBF research association BRISE (Bremen Initiative to Strengthen Early Childhood Development) together with Olaf Köller .

Act

In 1995 he founded the interdisciplinary center for clinical psychology and rehabilitation (ZKPR), which he has been director since then. He and his employees are involved in the development and evaluation of training procedures as well as psychological test procedures for children, adolescents and parents. Numerous intervention and test procedures have been developed under his leadership, which are continuously evaluated and optimized. Are known violence prevention programs in the field of aggression treatment, for example training with young people , and training with aggressive children that have been translated into several languages. ZKPR publications appear in the magazine Kindheit und Entwicklung , which was founded in 1992 by Gerhard Neuhäuser, Franz Petermann and Martin H. Schmidt .

Petermann worked in the field of psychological test development. On the basis of David Wechsler's intelligence concept , he was involved in the further development of the Hamburg Wechsler Intelligence Test for Children (HAWIK-IV), the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV), the Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS-IV) from 2007 , the Wechsler Nonverbal Scale of Ability (WNV) and the development test six months to six years (ET 6-6) . An essential goal is to make diagnostic survey methods usable in practice (e.g. in the context of child development monitoring, EBD 3-48).
