Franz Friedrich Wilhelm Karlovich San-Galli ( Russian Франц Фридрих Вильгельм Карлович Сан-Галли * February 26 jul. / 9. March 1824 greg. In Cammin in Pomerania , † July 17 jul. / The 30th July 1908 greg. In St . Petersburg ) was a Prussian - Russian entrepreneur .
Life
San Galli's grandfather Carl Balthasar Innocentius San Galli (1755-1818) was a sculptor from Pavia , who was captured as an Austrian soldier in 1778 and came to Stettin during the War of the Bavarian Succession . At the court of General Wichard von Möllendorff , he made a name for himself as a sculptor, received Prussian citizenship and, in 1785, went into honorable retirement for health reasons due to his invalidity. San-Galli's father Johann Carl San Galli joined the Freikorps Ferdinand von Schills , took part in the Prussian Army in the Sixth Coalition War and became a non-commissioned officer in a Uhlan regiment . After the war he became chief customs inspector in Stettin and married Henriette Lübcke.
Franz San-Galli attended high school in Szczecin and received lessons in English , French , dancing , fencing and horse riding at home . When San-Galli was 17 years old, his father died, so that his mother had to cope with the six children and only a small estate and pension. Thanks to his friendship with the son of the factory owner Charles Baird , he became an employee of the Baird machine building in 1844 . In 1851 he became a Russian citizen.
In 1852 San-Galli married the only daughter of the rich merchant Rosinski Sofja Alexandrovna and went into business for herself. In 1853 he opened a workshop with 12 plumbers on St. Petersburg's Ligowski Prospect with borrowed capital for the production of chimneys , ash boxes and metal beds, as well as a shop on Nevsky Prospect . A year later, the workshop was a factory with 1,000 workers for water and heating systems with a residential complex for the workers and a branch in Moscow . He was best known for the invention of the radiator . He also equipped St. Petersburg with ornate iron bars and gas lanterns . He owned houses on Ligowski Prospect and Nevsky Prospect. He had his villa on Ligowski Prospect built by Karl Karlowitsch Rachau and II Gornostajew in 1869–1872 . In 1880 he acquired a real estate complex in Moscow on Kuznetsky-Most, from 1883 Alexei Alexandrovich Martynov the San gallium shopping arcade made. In 1882 he became purveyor to the court . In 1889 San-Galli became a Real Councilor of State (4th class ). He was a member of the Commerce and Manufacturing Council of the Ministry of Finance. From 1891 to 1895 he was a member of the board of directors of the St. Petersburg private commercial bank. He was a member of the St. Petersburg city duma .
San-Galli was buried in the Tenetelew Lutheran cemetery.
