Franz Schäfer (politician, 1899)

Franz Schäfer (born January 6, 1899 in Ingolstadt ; † December 18, 1973 there ) was a German politician of the BVP and the CSU . He was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament from 1946 to 1950 and again from 1958 to 1962.

Life and work

Schäfer completed his apprenticeship as a roofer after his school days , and in 1916 he passed the journeyman's examination. He then took part in the First World War and was held in French captivity for two years. After his return he was employed by the Reichsbahn and began to get involved in Christian trade unions. Later he returned to the profession he had learned. After taking his master craftsman's examination in the roofing trade in 1927, he set up his own business. After 1933 he was temporarily imprisoned.

The roofing company still exists today. It is now run by his great-grandson, who also calls himself Franz Schäfer.

Functions

In 1950 Schäfer was appointed district master craftsman and elected to the board of the Chamber of Crafts for Upper Bavaria . In addition, he was second chairman of the Upper Bavarian employers' association, assessor at the Supreme Tax Court in Munich and a member of the tax committee at the Ingolstadt tax office. Until 1958 he was also a member of the board of the general local health insurance fund in Ingolstadt.

politics

In 1920 Schäfer joined the Bavarian People's Party, for which he was a member of the Ingolstadt city council. In 1945 he participated in the founding of the CSU in Ingolstadt, of which he was chairman until 1954. In the autumn of 1945 he was temporarily second mayor of Ingolstadt, a little later he moved back to the city council and became chairman of the CSU parliamentary group. From 1947 to 1955 he was also a member of the state executive committee of the CSU. From 1952 to 1958 he was chairman of the middle class groups of the CSU in Upper Bavaria .

In 1946, Schäfer was appointed to the Provincial Advisory Committee, which was a pre-parliament. He was a candidate for the constituent assembly , but did not make it. In the state election that took place shortly afterwards, he succeeded in moving in. From October 7, 1949 he was chairman of the subcommittee for structural engineering. After one electoral term, he resigned from parliament.

In the state elections in 1958 , he won the direct mandate in the district of Ingolstadt-Stadt and -Land and thus moved back into the state parliament. There he was now a member of the Interim Committee and the Committee on Economics and Transport. After the 1962 election, he finally resigned from the state parliament.
