Franz Schrüfer

It was not until he was 45 years old that Schrüfer began to take a serious look at chess. From 1870 to 1895 he was chairman of the Bamberg chess club founded in 1868 , of which he became honorary director after he ended his office. From 1870 he worked as a problem composer, where he drew attention to himself from 1876 through tournament successes. In the mid-1880s he was considered one of the most important chess composers of his time. He is considered an important representative of the old German school of chess composition.
