Franz Schrempf

Franz Schrempf (born September 13, 1870 in Bad Ischl , † August 8, 1953 in Bad Goisern ) was an Austrian painter. He mainly devoted himself to landscape painting and preferred watercolors . He depicted Salzburg landscapes in numerous pictures .

Life

Franz Schrempf was born in the Perneck district of Bad Ischl as the son of a mountain council and came from a family of saline officials residing in (Bad) Goisern , whose ancestors were a Tyrolean family, the noble Schrempf von Hall .

After training at the art academy and studying mathematics in Vienna , Franz Schrempf worked as a professor for art education and mathematics in Trieste , Bregenz and Salzburg (secondary school).

During the First World War he was a prisoner of war in Siberia from 1915 to 1917. In the wake of a prisoner exchange, he came to the Italian front. Several important watercolors were created during this time.

He married Paula Ramsauer, daughter of the owner of a chalk mill in Bad Goisern, which gave rise to his close relationship with Bad Goisern, which he made his summer home.

Franz Schrempf devoted himself mainly to landscape painting. In numerous pictures he depicted landscapes of Salzburg and the Salzkammergut. He preferred the watercolor technique.

Schrempf was a popular figure in Salzburg's cultural life. He organized exhibitions with Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka .

Honors

In the district of Salzburg Aigen is Franz-Schrempf-street named after him.
