Franz Simon von Pfaffenhofen
Franz Simon Pfaff von Pfaffenhofen franz. François Simon de Pfaff de Pfaffenhoven (born October 27, 1797 in Saint-Cyr du Vaudreuil , † April 4, 1872 in Donaueschingen ) was a baron, Grand Ducal Chamberlain of Baden and numismatist .
family
His grandfather was the Baron Simon Georg Pfaff von Pfaffenhofen († 1784) and his grandmother Magdalena Maria Victoria Bourdel de Bayard († 1773), his father was the canon of Liège and Knight of Honor of the Order of Malta, Franz Simon Pfaff von Pfaffenhofen (* December 13th 1753 in Saint-Riquier ) and owner of the island of Oberwerth near Koblenz. In 1819 his father bought the Cobenzl Castle which he had rebuilt, in 1835 he sold the property on the Reisenberg and moved to the island of Oberwerth where he died on April 4, 1840.
Education and work
After attending the Theresianum Vienna and the Collège Royal , he studied law in Vienna. In 1829 he came to the court of Karl Egon zu Fürstenberg in Donaueschingen, and in 1832 he became court cavalier . In 1833 he was appointed Chamberlain for the Grand Duke of Baden. From 1836 he was responsible for the Prince's art collection and coin cabinet , initially expanding and supervising the coin collection. In 1840 he was also given responsibility for the antiquities collections . In 1845 his first treatise appeared on The Coins of the Dukes of Allemanien . He founded the Kupferstichkabinett and the collection of paintings, among other things, with works that were available in Donaueschingen Castle . The state of Baden owes him the discovery of the diaries of Abbot Georg Michael Gaisser , an important source on the history of the Thirty Years' War.
