Franz Steindl

Franz Steindl (born January 10, 1960 in Purbach am Neusiedler See ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Steindl was a member of the National Council from 1994 to 2000 and regional party chairman of the ÖVP Burgenland from 2001 to 2015 and deputy governor from 2000 to 2015. From July 9, 2015 to February 17, 2020 he was a member of the Burgenland State Parliament .

education and profession

Franz Steindl attended the elementary school in Purbach am Neusiedler See from 1966 to 1970 and graduated from the Eisenstadt secondary school from 1970, which he graduated with the Matura in 1978. Steindl then studied economics at the University of Vienna . 1983 spondierte it to Mag. Rer. soc. oec. and then did his military service.

Steindl was employed by the Federal Chamber of Commerce as a training officer in the WIFI from 1984 and 1985 and was a training officer in the WIFI Burgenland between 1985 and 1986. He then moved to the ÖAAB Burgenland as state secretary until 1992 and was regional manager of the ÖVP Burgenland from 1992 to 1994. In 2000, Franz Steindl was head of the Burgenland Economic Development Institute.

Since February 2019 he has been responsible for marketing, information and the development of new musical projects at the Joseph Haydn Conservatory of the Province of Burgenland .

Franz Steindl was involved in the Junge ÖVP from 1980 to 1986 and, in addition to his professional activity in the ÖVP-related environment, was involved in community politics. He was Vice Mayor of Purbach am Neusiedler See from 1987 to 1992 and Mayor of the community between 1992 and 2000. At the same time he was city party chairman of the ÖVP Purbach between 1986 and 2000. Steindl was also Vice President of the Chamber of Labor from 1989 to 1991 and from 1994 to 2002 and from 2004 ÖVP district party chairman. From 2001 to 2015 Franz Steindl was regional party leader of the ÖVP Burgenland.

From November 7, 1994 he represented the ÖVP in the Austrian National Council, where he was chairman of the immunity committee and deputy chairman of the audit committee. Steindl was also a member of the budget committee and at times a member of the teaching committee and the economic committee. On April 30, 2000, he resigned from the National Council.

From December 28, 2000, Steindl belonged to the Burgenland provincial government as deputy governor. In the state government Niessl III , the areas of responsibility of municipalities, citizenships, state fire brigade association, disaster control, economy, youth, building law, trade law and energy law fell into Steindl's agendas.

After the state election in 2015 , which ended with the ÖVP losing votes and mandates, Franz Steindl was replaced as ÖVP state party leader on June 4, 2015 by Eisenstadt's mayor Thomas Steiner , after the SPÖ Burgenland entered into coalition negotiations with the FPÖ July 2015 led to the formation of the Niessl IV coalition government , with which the ÖVP is in the opposition for the first time since 1945. Steindl remained politically active as a member of the state parliament. After the state elections in 2020 , he left the state parliament.

Private

Steindl has been married since 1985 and has a son and a daughter. Steindl lives in Purbach am See.
