Franz Steinle

Franz Steinle (born December 20, 1949 in Wiesensteig ) is a German lawyer and sports official . Since December 2013 he has been President of the German Ski Association . From 2013 to 2017 he was President of the Higher Regional Court in Stuttgart .

Life

Steinle grew up in Geislingen an der Steige and did his Abitur at the higher commercial school in Göppingen after he had previously passed the secondary school leaving certificate . After graduating from high school, he first completed an apprenticeship in the higher service of the financial administration of Baden-Württemberg, in which he then worked for some tax offices and the regional finance directorate. In 1973 he began studying law at the University of Tübingen , which he completed in 1977 with the first state examination. After that, Steinle initially worked at a civil law chair at the university as a research assistant in order to advance his dissertation on Damages and Income Tax Law, with which he was awarded a doctorate in the early 1980s. jur. received his doctorate. After successfully completing his legal clerkship with the second state examination in 1981, he entered the higher judicial service of the state of Baden-Württemberg with effect from October 1, 1981. His first position as assessor was at the Ulm Regional Court , followed by assignments at the Geislingen District Court , the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor's Office and again at the Ulm Regional Court. On September 1, 1990, Steinle moved to the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court as presidential judge, where he was appointed judge at the Higher Regional Court with effect from October 1, 1991. In 1997 he moved to the Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt District Court, where he was appointed director with effect from October 24th. In 2001 he moved to the head of the Ravensburg Regional Court , which he led from December 14th of that year. Effective September 26, 2007, Steinle took over the management of the Stuttgart Regional Court , the largest court in the state of Baden-Württemberg. At the beginning of 2013, the then 63-year-old took over the management of the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court in succession to Eberhard Stilz , who had taken early retirement at his own request. Due to his age, Steinle was initially only seen as a temporary solution. Ultimately, however, he was not replaced by his successor Cornelia Horz until October 5, 2017 , who had also succeeded him in other presidential offices in Ravensburg and Stuttgart.

Volunteering

Steinle can look back on a long activity in the German Ski Association, since 2005 he was its vice-president. In December 2013 he became the first non-Bavarian to take over the position of President of the German Ski Association, succeeding Alfons Hörmann . In addition, he was elected to the board of the International Biathlon Union in 2018 .
