Sheffield Ingalls

Sheffield Ingalls (born March 28, 1875 in Atchison , Kansas , †  January 17, 1937 there ) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1915 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas.

Career

Sheffield Ingalls was the son of US Senator John James Ingalls (1833-1900). He attended public schools in Atchison and Washington, DC After graduating from Midland College in Atchison, he studied at the University of Kansas until 1895 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1897, he began to work in this profession on a modest basis. Mainly as a member of the Republican Party, he focused on politics. Between 1899 and 1901 he was a police judge in his hometown of Atchison. In 1906 he was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives, where he served on various committees and chaired the Education Committee. Ingalls was an opponent of political clans and fought corruption. At times he also published the Atchison Champion newspaper. He later also entered the banking and real estate industries. He became a director at First National Bank and the Railway Specialty Company in Atchison , among others . He was also a member of several organizations and associations.

In 1912 Ingalls was elected lieutenant governor of Kansas alongside George H. Hodges . He held this office between January 13, 1913 and January 11, 1915. He was Deputy Governor . After the end of his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, he continued his previous activities. He died on January 17, 1937 in his hometown of Atchison, where he was also buried.
