Gary Sherrer
Gary Sherrer (born September 3, 1940 in Topeka , Kansas ) is an American politician . Between 1996 and 2003 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas.
Career
Gary Sherrer graduated from Emporia State University and then taught as a teacher. He has also worked in banking and other business areas in Wichita . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1995 and 2002 he was Secretary of the Department of Commerce for the State of Kansas .
After Vice Governor Sheila Frahm moved to the US Senate and subsequently resigned, Governor Bill Graves appointed Gary Sherrer as his new deputy. He held this office after a re-election in 1998 between July 18, 1996 and January 13, 2003. Among other things, he campaigned for the improvement of the education system in his state. Sherrer was the longest-serving lieutenant governor of Kansas. Between 2007 and 2011, he was chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents , an organization that includes the six state universities and works with other educational institutions in Kansas. Sherrer resigned from this position in May 2011 - out of annoyance because he had not been appointed chairman of a committee to determine the new president of Emporia State University .
