Dave Owen (born August 10, 1938 ) is a former American politician . Between 1973 and 1975 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas .

Career

Dave Owen studied at Ottawa University in Kansas, Rutgers University and Old Ohio State University . He worked first in his grandfather's goods store and then in banking. He founded the First National Bank of Shawnee Mission in Fairway , of which he was president until 1984. Also until 1984 he was the owner of the State Bank of Stanley . Then he sold both banks. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1967 and 1973 he was a member of the Kansas Senate . He was a supporter and supporter of Bob Dole , whose various election campaigns he helped organize.

In 1972 Owen was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kansas alongside Robert Docking . He held this office between January 8, 1973 and January 13, 1975. He was Deputy Governor . He then continued his political activities for Dole. He came into close contact with the federal party leaders of the Republicans. He even attended briefings from President Gerald Ford . In the early 1980s, Owen was his party's state chairman for Kansas. In 1982 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of governor. In 1988 he worked again for Bob Dole when he ran for the first time in the primary for the presidential election. It came to irregularities in the campaign financing. This led to the investigation of Owen's previous financial campaign activities. Eventually he was charged with tax evasion and sentenced to one year in prison in 1993. He was released six months later. President Bill Clinton finally pardoned him in January 2001, shortly before the end of his term in office. This means that Owen is no longer considered a criminal record. Owen had always protested his innocence on the matter. Politically, his career is over. Since then he has held various positions in the management of several companies in the private sector. Today he works for Lodgwell LLC , among others .
