Carl E. Friend

Carl E. Friend (born April 18, 1869 in Saint Joseph , Missouri , †  February 23, 1948 in Lawrence , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1943 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas.

Career

Carl Friend graduated from Kansas State College and then worked as a civil engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1888 . At the end of 1889 he entered the timber trade. He was very successful in doing this. He later expanded his business to include the Cherokee Strip in what is now Oklahoma . Even in distant Georgia he ran sawmills. From 1909 he lived in Lawrence. There he became vice president and one of the directors of the Peoples State Bank . He also became a member of several organizations and associations at the district and state levels. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1932 he was in theElected Kansas Senate.

In 1938, Friend was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kansas at the side of Payne Ratner . He held this office between January 9, 1939 and January 11, 1943. He was Deputy Governor . Between 1940 and 1848 he was also the vice president and executive director of the University of Kansas Endowment Association . He died in Lawrence on February 23, 1948.
