James A. Troutman

James Armstrong Troutman (born December 1, 1853 in Pleasant Grove , Fulton County , Indiana , †  December 25, 1926 in Topeka , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas.

Career

James Troutman was the son of William H. and Nancy Troutman, who were early settlers in what would later become the state of Kansas. He taught in Kansas and Missouri for about three years . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession in 1880. He was also the editor of a newspaper in Kansas, a member of the Temperance Union against alcohol consumption and the Republican Party . In 1893 he became a member of the Kansas Legislature ; but it is not known which of the two chambers of the state legislature he belonged to.

In 1894 Troutman was elected lieutenant governor of Kansas alongside Edmund Morrill . He held this office between January 14, 1895 and January 11, 1897. He was Deputy Governor . He later served four terms as mayor of the now defunct Potwin Place Ward in Shawnee County .
