Charles W. Thompson

Charles W. Thompson (born July 22, 1867 in Ottumwa , Iowa , †  June 1, 1950 in Topeka , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1937 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas.

Career

In 1879, Charles Thompson and his family came to Marion , Kansas, where he attended public schools. First he made his living as a newsboy and then as a shop clerk. Later he founded his own shop in Marion, which he soon expanded into a large department store. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He became a member of the school committee and for some time also in the municipal council of Marion. In 1921 he was elected to the Kansas Senate, where he remained for two terms.

In 1932 Thompson was elected lieutenant governor of Kansas alongside Alf Landon . He held this office between January 9, 1933 and January 11, 1937. He was Deputy Governor . He also entered the banking industry and became a director at Merchants National Bank of Topeka . He was also the executive director and director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka . He also became President of the Aetna Building & Loan Association . Thompson was also a member of several organizations and associations. He died on June 1, 1950 in Topeka, where he was also buried.
