Richard Joseph Hopkins

Richard Joseph Hopkins (born April 4, 1873 in Jefferson City , Missouri , †  August 28, 1943 in Kansas City , Kansas ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1911 and 1913 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas; later he became a federal judge .

Career

After studying law at Northwestern University and his admission to the bar in 1901, Richard Hopkins began to work in this profession. Between 1901 and 1906 he practiced in Chicago and then in Garden City . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1909 he was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives.

In 1910, Hopkins was elected lieutenant governor alongside Walter R. Stubbs . He held this office between January 9, 1911 and January 13, 1913. He was Deputy Governor . Between 1913 and 1918 he was the legal representative of the City of Garden City; from 1919 to 1923 he held the office of Attorney General of Kansas. He then began a career as a judge. From 1923 and 1929 he was an associate judge in the Kansas Supreme Court and then a judge in the federal district court for the Kansas district. He held this office until his death on August 28, 1943 in Kansas City.
