Alexander Pancoast Riddle

Alexander Pancoast Riddle (born August 16, 1846 in Harlansburg , Lawrence County , Pennsylvania , †  January 12, 1909 in Minneapolis , Kansas ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1889 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Kansas.

Life

Alexander Riddle did an apprenticeship in printing and then worked in the newspaper business. From 1869 he lived first in Olathe and then in Girard (Kansas). There he was co-owner of a newspaper until 1885. That year he sold his stake and moved to Minneapolis, Ottawa County , where he also edited some newspapers. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1881 and 1883 he was a member of the Kansas Senate .

In 1884, Riddle was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kansas alongside John Martin . He held this office after a re-election between January 12, 1885 and January 14, 1889. He was Deputy Governor . In June 1896 he took part as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in St. Louis , at which William McKinley was nominated as a candidate for president. In the same year he was appointed superintendent on Insurance for his state . He died in Minneapolis on January 12, 1909.
